 Nonverbal Communication

The office is a perfect series to describe non verbal communication because one of the main communication styles is base on non verbal communication. They play a lot with silent moments, eye contact and body gestures. In the episode “The Secret” (season 2, episode 13), there are many examples of Nonverbal Communication because in this episode the characters literally talk about non-verbal communication.
The first example is when Dwight and Angela (who secretly have a love affair) agree about a work matter, in front of other people in the office. After they agree with each other, they lock eyes and slightly grin at one another. They don't realize that they are showing their sexual attraction to one another until people start to notice this uncomfortable transaction.

Another example of nonverbal communication is when Dwight actually describes nonverbal cues of a liar. "There are several different ways to tell if a perp (perpetrator) is lying. The liar will avoid direct eye contact. The liar will cover his or her face with the hand, especially the mouth. The liar will perspire (sweat)."  Here, Dwight describes eye behaviors and gesticulation (the use of arm and hand movements to communicate).
